Registration of Political Parties for General Election Will Start on 24 April

PHNOM PENH: The National Election Committee (NEC) has announced the launch of the registration period for political parties taking part in the General Election, which will begin on 24 April and end on 8 May 2023.

According to a statement issued by the NEC on Friday, 3 February, political parties must register during working hours, either in the morning from 7 am to 11:30 am, or in the afternoon from 2 pm to 5:30 pm.

Registration forms are provided free of charge to political parties wishing to register at the NEC office during working hours, or can be downloaded from the NEC website, www.nec.gov.kh.

The NEC states, "The application must be signed by the president of the political party or by a representative who was assigned by the president of that political party. Further assignment must be made with the consent of the president of the political party."

In addition, the NEC also stated there are two new ways to prepare the list of political parties and the list of candidates for the election: political parties can either prepare the list of candidates for the 7th National Assembly Election manually or through online applications.

The NEC hopes that all political parties and electoral commissions at all levels will cooperate to ensure the success of the 7th National Assembly Election in 2023.
